Frequently Asked Questions
Sendutil looks awesome. Who is it for?
Sendutil is meant for people and businesses who needs to send data confidentially. Email is the standard communication channel used, but it is not confidential. That’s why medical records are usually not sent by email: confidentiality cannot be ensured.
How is confidentiality ensured?
With Sendutil, you encrypt a file locally before sending it to our servers. Our servers only see encrypted data. The link you share with the recipients of the data includes the information required to decrypt the file.
The link you send also has a limited validity both in time and number of downloads, which you can configure. This also helps increase the confidentiality in the case that the recipients inbox is accessed by unauthorised users: the file won’t probably be available anymore for download.
All decryption information is in the link, is that secure?
If the mailbox of the recipient is compromised at the time you send the link, the file could indeed be downloaded by an unauthorised user. To ensure confidentiality in that case, you can additionally protect the file with a password you set at the time of the upload. You need to communicate that email to the recipient, but you can do this via another communication channel or in real life.
Is this a storage solution?
No, this service is not a storage solution, and you should always keep a copy of the file. Sendutil does not ensure availability of the file, and you should always be able to re-upload the file. We prefer loosing a file than leaking a file. That’s why we keep our solution the simplest possible and the most manageable.
